Beaches
If you are looking to experience the beaches of Australia, you will never run out of options to go to. As Australia is an island, going to the beach has become such a normal thing for most of the locals. In fact, if you decide to hit the beach on a weekend, you will see many of them just relaxing and having fun under the sun, testing the waters to ride the waves.
In Sydney alone there are the world renowned Byron Beach which is great to learn surfing, and the interestingly named Cogee Beach and of course, perhaps the most famous beach in the world - Bondi Beach, situated some 7km from central Sydney.
Besides the famous beaches there are loads of others that are much less well known but just as nice, such as Cactus Beach which is south of Sydney and much quieter than the aforementioned.
If you wish to see a few of the Australian beaches on your travels then it's a good idea to hire a car to get around.
Barbecues
One thing we all know and "love" Australia for is its reputation for the "barbie". Australian people in general are hugely passionate about their foods and of course the booze to go with it! Slap a bit of beef on the barbie (or a bit of croc or rue), open the beer and you got yourself a bit of a party going on there. Barbecue parties are an Australian's passion and expertise!
Sporting Events
Australian people are hugely passionate about their sports and their teams, be that on a local level, a national level or an international level. Witness an international rugby event and you will see what I mean, or how about the Ashes - the cricket event between Australia and England. If you enjoy sporting events in any way then the ideal time to visit Australia is when there are some big events taking place. You can then really soak up the fantastic, friendly and boisterous atmosphere.
